Texas, and in particular, the Dallas / Fort Worth Metroplex has had a long and rich tradition of acapella barbershop harmony choruses: 12-time international chorus champions Vocal Majority, Towne North Plano (Men of Note, Legacy of Harmony), and Big D choruses, as well as international quartet champions Eureka!, Max Q, Acoustix, Side Street Ramblers, and Dealer’s Choice.
Lone Star Harmony Chorus was formed in the fine tradition of those choruses and quartets. Located in the far north Dallas suburb of Allen/Lucas,
Lone Star draws members from Dallas, Richardson, Prosper, Plano, Allen, Lucas, McKinney, Frisco, and as far north as Sherman. Our goal from the day we opened our doors has been to have fun while we make great four-part barbershop harmony. Our chorus features one active and great quartet, Fourtissimo, consisting of John, Tim, Rich, and Bennett.
We learn, have fun, sing songs, ring chords, poke fun at other sections, sing “tags,” and then we do it all over again informally at Kelly’s at the Village in Allen at our weekly “Afterglow.” At the afterglow, we’ll eat, drink, and may serenade guests and the wait staff. Or we may just sing and “chew the fat” for an hour or two. All in all, it’s a great evening of fellowship and fun.
Come join us in Allen/Lucas every Tuesday night. Contact us before coming as we occasionally have short notice sing outs. (We try to post our events on our Events page, but sometimes “we” forget :)). We’d love to have you help us “ring” a few chords. If you don’t know what that jargon’s all about, just come join us and we’ll help you experience it firsthand.
Here’s a recent photo of our chorus “caroling” for our host meeting place (Grace Church) Christmas event (December 2024).
